German common parlance and Bundeswehr regulations exclusively mention the term 'Pistole P 1', even though the first pistols were marked with the designation P 8.

The left side of the frame is marked with the full serial number, and the initials “BW” (Bundeswehr). The right side of the slide is marked with military acceptances, a manufacturing date of 10/53, (1953) followed by numerical series.
